When should I schedule my newborn session?
Before your baby is born! Your baby’s best time to be photographed is between 5-12 days old while they are still sleepy, ‘milk drunk’ and curly from just coming out of the womb. My schedule fills up about 1-2 months in advance so please contact us to sechedule in your own newborn session.
Because babies arrive on thier own time we will put you on our calender to hold a spot open for you and then move your session accordingly once your baby arrives.
Where will my session be and how long will it take?
If you live within 30km of Pukekohe you are welcome to have your session at home where I will travel to you bringing everything I need for your session. If you live outside of the 30km radius you are still welcome to have a home session and additional travel charges may apply.
I also offer studio sessions at my serene home studio where you can look through my extensive prop collection and then sit back and relax while I gently work with your baby.
Whither your session is in the comfort of your own home or at my welcoming home studio the session times are the same. Each session is up to three hours loing which allows time for feeding and soothing as needed.
How should I prepare for my newborn session?
You don’t need to do anything special to prepare for your newborn session. We want to make your time with us as relaxting and enjoyable so the only thing you need to do is feed your baby just before our session together starts. We will take several breaks through out the session for feeding to ensure your baby is kept happy and has a full tummy.
I suggest a photo session at 36 weeks, it ensures your tummy is nice and tight and obviously pregnant but enables us to have to time to reschedule should something like weather not be on our side. Of course, if you just want them later or there is a reason you think you might deliver early, we can do it earlier too.
I offer on location maternity shoots at the Manurewa Botanical gardens or a park local to me in Pukekohe. If the outdoors is not your thing, I offer shoots in my Pukekohe studio where it is more private with the resulting images being beautifully light and airy.
For outdoor shoots I suggest the session be an hour or so before sunset. It gives the soft pretty light you see in my photos. I compare it to being in front of a harsh spotlight (the sun) or being in front of that nice soft warm candle light in a bedroom. Which would you rather?
Studio shoots can be done in eother the mornin or afternoon as the light in my studio is always soft.
What to wear: I provide the fabrics and dresses you see in my photos. You can also wear your own clothing it is completely up to you. I ask every lady wear pastel, white or nude underwear and IF possible a strapless bra. You can bring along extra things if you want something different, like a big floppy beach hat or a beautiful hair wreath or some gorgeous high heels!
Stretch marks and thing you dont like about yourself: I have had a lot of women say to me they dont want to show their tummy because they have horrid stretchmarks. Its not an issue at all! I use natural lighting and it makes them faded in the photos to start with. Some women want them completely removed when I edit the photos, other woman just want them softened- it is completely up to you.and I do that as well. I have had 3 children so I understand that not everyone feels glamorous in the last trimester of your pregnacy so I make sure I pose you in a really flattering way (no double chins, no fat thighs and the list goes on) and then IF you are really worried I can do a little extra work in photoshop but I keep everything natural so no one will ever know 🙂
